Curriculum Features
Our subject provides a context for students to understand the concepts of health and healthy practices, to take on responsibility for good citizenship to build a caring society, and to formulate a caring and support system which fits into our local needs and strengths, and assists in better managing the transitions our society is involved in. Through field learning, HMSC aims to develop the necessary knowledge and awareness of the emerging health and social problems that are affecting not only our lives but also the society and the world at large.
Life-wide Learning
Through practical field learning experiences, students can integrate and apply theoretical knowledge and skills by observing, exploring and researching topics related to health and social care in real community settings. By reflecting, designing, and conducting research projects to solve relevant problems, students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in authentic health and social care environments. Engaging in volunteer service and competitions helps students understand the conditions of people from different social strata, enhance empathy and foster a positive mindset.
Students participate in the ” Health-in-Mind Programme ” organized by MINDSET in collaboration with Kwai Chung Hospital under the Hospital Authority every year. Through this program, they collaboratively plan and execute school-wide mental health awareness events for students and teachers. This initiative aims to deepen the understanding of mental health and teach stress-relief methods.
Form 5 students, working in groups, created “Life Stories” for the elderly as part of a reminiscence therapy project. This project focuses on positive events and feelings to help the elderly affirm their life experiences and create a more positive mental state. Reminiscence therapy enhances interaction with others, increases feelings of joy and pride, and reduces feelings of depression. Through interviews and story compilation, students learn to live in the moment and develop a positive life attitude.
