Curriculum Features
Enhancing Inquiry Ability through Experimental Activities
In Physics education, when students learn complex formulas, teachers conduct relevant experiments to aid instruction, enhancing students’ understanding of different elements within the formulas, thereby strengthening their inquiry abilities.
Learning through Reading in Physics World
Teachers encourage continuous reading and reflection. The “Physics Corner” provides various types of physics books, including exercises and assignments, and extracurricular readings like “Hundred Thousand Whys,” inspiring students’ thinking and enabling them to analyze scientific questions and phenomena from multiple perspectives.
Designing School-Based Learning Materials to Optimize Deep Thinking Learning
Teachers design suitable school-based learning materials to help students grasp course content more easily. These materials include appropriate exercises and public exam questions to boost students’ confidence and exam skills, thus optimizing their deep thinking learning.
Inspiring Application of Course Knowledge with STEAM Projects
During the annual Science Week and STEAM Week, the physics department designs various activities to help students understand scientific elements in the curriculum, such as energy conversion and lighting up LED bulbs using a strong electromagnetic field, inspiring students’ scientific thinking and exploration.
Using YouTube Videos to Support Student Learning
Teachers create a series of physics instructional videos during their free time, covering new concepts, exercise solutions, and learning tips. These videos allow students to review and understand class content at their own pace, providing guidance on difficult learning points.
Life-wide Learning
Rocket Car Activities and Competitions
To enhance students’ scientific exploration, the school has held rocket car activities on the S2 Learning Experiential Day, which have been highly effective. Our school also participated in the Hong Kong Rocket Car Competition and achieved excellent results, including the Rocket Car Design Award in 2024.
Hong Kong GreenMech Contest
To apply classroom knowledge, students participate in the “Hong Kong GreenMech Contest – Video Competition” organized by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, winning the championship with their designs.
Visits to Various Scientific Venues
The Physics Department organizes visits to different scientific venues, allowing students to experience real scientific development beyond textbooks, broadening their scientific horizons.
Experiential Educational Activities Related to Scientific Mechanisms
The Physics Department participates in external educational programs, allowing students to experience activities related to scientific mechanisms at various institutions like Ocean Park and Disneyland, fostering their interest in scientific exploration.
External Collaborations
Language Training Courses from the University of Hong Kong (LAC)
To align with the school’s teaching language policy, the Physics Department conducts all instructions in English. Teachers also participate in English teaching training courses provided by the Education Department from the University of Hong Kong, receiving positive feedback and recognition for their teaching.
HASSE Space School Virtual Program (The Houston University)
To celebrate True Light 150th Anniversary, 4 True Light Secondary Schools in Hong
Kong together with The Houston Association for Space and Science Education (HASSE) jointly organized a 5-days Virtual Program for 40 senior secondary students evenly from 4 True Light Schools.
HASSE Space School Virtual Program was designed to engage the students’ personal development and inspire their potentials to dream big and reach their goals.
Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Physics and Combined Science (Physics) Examination Briefing
Physics teachers participate in annual briefings to understand the latest assessment standards and exam skills, providing valuable information to students.
School-Based Assessment Briefing Sessions
Physics teachers also attend school-based assessment briefing sessions to understand the latest requirements for student assessments in experiments, benefiting greatly.
