Values Education Team

Our school has a values education team that coordinates the values-related activities and is mainly responsible for values education classes. It also cultivates students’ positive values and attitudes through learning and teaching in various key learning areas, subject curriculums, and other related learning experiences, such as Moral Education Week, cleaning competition, flag-raising ceremony, etc. In addition, the Guidance Committee has collaborated with this group to participate in the Education Bureau’s “Values Education Learning Circle” program since 2017, opening classrooms and conducting professional exchanges on values education with other schools. Subjects that have participated in the program include Chinese language, ICT, Geography, History, Chinese History, etc.

Values Education Learning Circle

Chinese Culture

The Chinese nation has a prolonged history and profound culture. As a member of the Chinese, we always have the obligation to understand and cherish the history and culture of our motherland.

In addition to traditional classroom learning, experiential activities such as museum visits, participation in Chinese culture workshops, special lectures, activities and competitions organized by different organizations, and last but not least, to read about Chinese heroes and martyrs are offered to students. At the same time, our school will also organize both local and domestic study tours, so as to allow students to understand not only the magnificent views but also long historical and cultural heritage of China.

Through different means of contact and experience with Chinese culture, we can understand the rich and excellent traditional Chinese culture and virtues. While this allows students to appreciate the beauty of Chinese culture, but it also can deepen their love on their homeland.

As quoted from Prof. Lo Ming Tung, “The purpose of teaching Chinese culture to secondary school students is to enable students to adopt a life-long learning attitude, to inspire them to develop interest in the things around them, and then to connect with the connotation of Chinese culture, self-study, reflection, and personal pursuit of knowledge.”

Life Education Class and Values Education Class

The school-based values curriculum includes life education classes and values education classes, covering all levels from Form One to Form Six. The course takes the spirit of True Light as the main theme, and incorporates school history, school motto, True Light songs and the elements into appropriate topics to comprehensively cultivate the qualities of True Lighter.

Life education classes convey positive values to students in different ways, including whole-school assemblies and graded assemblies. For example, inviting different professional organizations and speakers to the school to share, the Basic Life Skill Training (BLST) programme from the Department of Health, the Independent Commission Against Corruption, and the Police-Community Relations Unit’s outreach seminars, etc.

Our school will begin implementing school-based values education curriculum in 2022, initially starting with junior forms and later implemented to the entire school. The project received assistance from the Quality School Improvement Program (QSIP) of the Hong Kong Institute of Education of the Chinese University of Hong Kong to optimize the school-based values education curriculum. For the curriculum design, relevant topics are assigned according to students’ needs through professional questionnaires such as APASO. In addition to meeting the Seven Learning Goals of Secondary Education, the topics are also designed based on the concept of PERMA in positive psychology, hoping to help students build a sense of happiness in terms of Positive Emotions, Engagement, Positive Relationships, Meaning and Sense of Accomplishment.
